Some visual effects trickery, completed in a fairly insane two-week deadline, from students studying the MDS Diploma of Visual Effects & Motion Graphics has seen the city of Auckland (New Zealand) reimagined in the year 2100. The project was around the use of compositing software Autodesk Combustion with students having a fairly ‘free’ brief on the theme they would incorporate when extrapolating the ‘look’ of Auckland in just under a 100 years from now.

The selection above shows three pieces (in order) from students Ranop  Subhawong, Paul  McDowell, and Santosh Kumar Ganji highlighting some diverse ‘takes’ on the brief … from a ‘fifth element like’ teeming skyskape to a bleak dystopian underground future , to an undersea experience. Undoubtably, this showcases the high-end, high quality effects work coming out of the MDS Visual Effects course.
