Pluto gets it done at MDS

Students from the diplomas of Digital Media and Visual Effects & Motion Graphics teamed up last year to produce the first Interactive Video on this side of the planet. They used flash and motion graphics to create a web-based music video that the listener/viewer can interact with while it’s playing on the screen.

Media Design School got the kiwi band Pluto involved; the Auckland-based four piece was interested in doing something experimental for their song 1963. So over a few weeks, five groups of students coming from both courses worked together.

It all started with a studio shoot was scheduled with band members playing individually in front of a green screen, then once the footage was ready to play with, brainstorm sessions, presentations to the band, rework of the concepts and actual production followed.

The project was a huge experiment for both tutors and students but a really big success; such a success that tutors are looking into collaborating again on more of those interactive music videos, bringing students of two different diplomas together while studying, just how they would experience it in the real world.

If you are keen to see what they came up with, and wish to know more about the project, check it out right here.
