Our Digital Creativity students recently got a taste of 3D animation, using Blender to create a detailed 3D band member of their choice.
Students needed to search for ideas, create a background story for their character, including details on their strenghts, weaknesses and personal interests. They next worked through sketches of the character, experimenting with different shapes and details. They then put all they had learnt about Blender to use, creating the character in 3D.
Blender is an open source 3D creation software. It’s free for anyone to download, and is a great introduction to 3D animation software. You can do all that you would expect to do in Blender – modelling, shading, animating, rendering and compositing. Digital Creativity is our only course that uses Blender, and it gives the students an idea of what to expect if they go on to our Diploma of 3D Computer Animation, which uses Autodesk Maya.
