The Digital Creativity class is just finishing up their Digital Video module, and to help reinforce what they’ve learnt, we sent them on their way to create some mockumentaries.
They were briefed to create a 2 minute mockumentary about an inventor or invention. The rest was up to them – so some interesting concepts came up: interviewing God (‘inventor’ of the world), the creator of a robot, the ‘perfect diet’ invention, and this one, “Got wood?” – we’ll let you watch it for yourself to see what it’s all about!
The project was broken down into three sections, the first being Pre-Production. This time was used to come up with the idea, using the ‘Three Act Structure’ to write the script, creating storyboards – which forced them to think about camera angles and shot composition, and sourcing sound effects, location, props and costumes. Then the real fun began – filming! Great fun for students and Aucklanders, who must have seen some fairly random costumes around the place!
Once students had completed filming, students used Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 to edit the mockumentary.
The Digital Creativity students have already completed their Graphic Design and 3D Animation modules, and next up for the Digital Creativity folk is seven weeks of Web Design and Motion Graphics. We’re sure some awesome work will be coming out of this class, and we’ll definitely keep you posted.
What do you think of the mockumentary? Post your comments below.

This is a really cool video and really fun project. Good work guys! Seems that you are making the most of the course!
